Fire in sunshine
I’ve never seen a family group of Bullfinches before, but we can see four in this tree. There are three bright pink males and a brownish female. They are spectacular in this sunshine at RSPB Lodmoor.
The scientific name of the Eurasian Bullfinch is Pyrrhula pyrrhula. It means Fire fire, with pyrrhula having the same root as pyre, as in funeral pyre, or pyromaniac.
I can see why.
