Canada Goose

There’s a flock of Canada Geese, Branta canadensis, here in The Regent’s Park.

They were introduced in the late 17th century as an addition to King James II’s waterfowl collection in St. James’s Park. We have provided them with food and have killed most of their natural predators, which means there are are now 54,000 breeding pairs and over 160,000 here over winter.

They outweigh every other wild bird here.
