Woodpigeon portraits

Woodpigeons have a very strange iris in their eye. It looks like it’s egg-shaped or a couple of overlapping circles, but it isn’t. The iris itself is circular, it’s just that it has a black smudge underneath the pupil which gives it that oval look. I wonder why?

Here’s one beautifully ensconced in a cherry tree. What lovely birds they are.

It’s a fine morning with bright light here at Daisy Nook Country Park. A woman comes past with a boy and a small dog with a litter picker and a black bin bag. I really appreciate the effort they’re taking to keep this place tidy and safe for wildlife. The amount of rubbish humans produce is enormous.

It’s such good light I try a few flight shots and this is my best attempt.

Overall, it’s a successful collection of beautiful images of a characterful bird. Time for lunch.
