A Night at the Ramesseum

A quick trip to the British Museum and a chance to photograph its largest Egyptian sculpture; what remains of a huge carving of the seated figure of Ramesses II (also known as Ramses II).

It weighed 20 tonnes, was transported 124 miles on sled and boat and is 3,250 years old. It was originally painted. It’s nice to feel a little awe from time to time, isn’t it?
