Flying Flamingo
It’s tricky getting near to Flamingos. We’re at Orbetello in Italy and the wooden hide is set well back from their favourite part of the laguna. As we’re wondering how to get closer to them, without disturbing them, a young one flies fast and low directly past us.
What extraordinary birds they are.
That upside down mouth is exceptional.
The lighting’s against us but I fill the frame with its strange shape as it flaps past.
Flamingoes need long legs to keep their bodies out of the water and then they need long necks to get their heads back to the bottom of the water at foot-level. I need to get close to a lovely pink adult next. Wish me luck.
