Starling - The Hall of Einar - photograph (c) David Bailey (not the)

There are only a few Swallows left in Italy in November, so it was fascinating to see Starlings taking their place as aerial predators of small insects over a field in Rome. I took numerous photographs of these, one of my favourite birds, but every single one which had the beak open and an insect about to be caught was out of focus. We’ll just have to admire their iridescent plumage instead, I think, while I work on my technique.
