More Black Redstarts

It’s time for another trip to the nearest waste ground, which counts as the natural world these days, to see the Black Redstarts. In Rome they take on the role of Robins in Britain. Here, Robins are wild, skulking forest dwellers, while it’s Black Redstarts which populate that parks and public spaces.

This is a male amongst the November flowers:

Beautiful, aren’t they?

They’re adept at catching flies while flying. The only time I’m able to catch flies in my mouth is with a fatal combination of cycling and smiling. Thankfully I’m currently only doing one of those.
