Goldmoss
I’m cycling around villages in South Devon when I see an old stone wall completely covered in intense yellow-gold flowers. It looks just like the Biting Stonecrop I’ve got growing in the garden at Einar on Westray in Orkney.
I stop and take a closer look:
It’s Sedum acre, also known as Goldmoss Stonecrop, Mossy Stonecrop, Goldmoss Sedum, Biting Stonecrop and Wallpepper. It has a bitter taste, but I’m not about to try it again.
In Orkney it’s often covered in Hoverflies. There are none here today, though.
What a stunning plant.
