Pale Buzzard

There’s a wide variation in the colouration of Common Buzzards. This one is particularly pale, without the dark brown breast markings and much paler in the wings.

I’d love to know what advantages the different colouration gives them.

We have quite a few Buzzards near our house. Because of the lockdown, and good weather we have been watching quite a few encounters with Buzzards being mobbed by Magpies,Wood pidgeons, collared doves, protecting their nests. The collared Doves being the most fierce.This lockdown had had its benefits, being able to see nature’s dramas being played out, watching young birds fledgling, all because we have had time to sit and observe.

  That’s really interesting Margaret. I think Buzzards may be being more adventurous in their roaming because roadkill has become far less frequent with the reduction in traffic. I’d love to see what the Collared Doves get up to. I’m hoping that many more people will be watching nature and connecting with it so we place it further towards the centre of our lives rather than the periphery. Enjoy those fledgelings!
