Grey Wagtails
The estimated population of Grey Wagtails in the UK is 38,000 pairs. I’m delighted there’s a pair on my local river. Here one is collecting invertebrates for its fledgelings.
The name Grey Wagtail is confusing for a bird this colour.
They are bright, active, tireless birds. They are on their lifetime’s mission to raise their family.
This nagging hungry gape is tugging at the parents’ heartstrings.
The demands of hungry children never end.
There’s some respite at the top of the roof, where there’s a good view of all the Carrion Crows, Magpies and Herring Gulls.
There are only a few more weeks to go and these youngsters will be fully independent.
And then the cycle of survival will repeat.
