Jackdaws in the rookery
I enjoyed my brief early morning trip to the empty park to see the nesting Rooks.
I’m surprised to see the Rookery is full of Jackdaws. What are they doing together? I can imagine them roosting together in winter, that seems perfectly normal. But Jackdaws hanging around Rooks’ nests? Why?
There seem to be several beautifully researched scientific papers on their relationship. I may have a little reading to do.

Aren’t they beautifully poised birds? I love their ‘chak-chak-chak’ as they gather over the town in large flocks.

And those strangely pale eyes fascinate me.
I’m looking forward to learning more about them.
