Challacombe Farm

Challacombe Farm is on Dartmoor. It’s part of the 135,000 acres owned by the Duchy of Cornwall to the benefit of Charles Windsor. How he doesn’t die of shame, I have no idea. There’s plenty to see here, including shaggy sheep:

A lone tree:

A chicken with attitude:

A silky black cat with piercing eyes:

And, near to the farmhouse, the remains of at least seven Medieval houses:

After the last Ice Age it would have been temperate rainforest and teeming with life. It would have had bears, wolves and lynx. It’s now largely empty of natural life and full of inbred pets and food animals. Instead of a home for nature, the land is used to harvest farm subsidies, from taxes on working people, paid to fabulously wealthy landowners.

And Challacombe Farm is one of the better ones.
