Pied Wagtail – forty years ago in my nature notebooks

It’s forty years since I first spotted a Pied Wagtail and drew it in my childhood nature notebooks. Here’s the entry from 3 November 1976:

Today I’m out in Devon when I see a thin black-brown-grey and white bird. It’s a Pied Wagtail on the ridge tiles of a roof.

After forty years it really deserves a better photograph.
