Getting my cap and my running shoes out

What’s the quickest way of dispersing a crowd?

I’m getting my cap and my running shoes out to raise money for a cause I believe in: The Orkney Blide Trust. I’ll be running the Bisgeos run this year on 3 September 2016 with the aim of raising as much money as possible for people in need at the most difficult time of their lives – when they are emotionally unwell and suffering from mental health problems.

I’m unfit and slightly fat. The run is an epic 12 miles on the remote Orkney island of Westray. Just so that you understand how remote Westray is, once you’ve got to Orkney it’s an hour and a half further on by ferry until you get to Westray. I haven’t done anything like this since 1982 when I did the ‘Run the World’ run in Hyde Park. It’s a long, long way and will take me hours to complete. I’ve been training for it for weeks, but not months. There are only two things that will get me through to the finishing line: one is the thought I’m raising money for such a good cause; and the second is the barbecue at the end. I don’t ever intend to do it again. This is your one and only chance to sponsor me for something I believe in. Please give what you can afford for people in need.

The Orkney Blide Trust is a non-judgemental charity, led by its members, which provides safe, personalised services. It could easily be you or someone you love who need the help of a great little organisation like this. Please give generously.
