A glimpse of Stromness
It’s Sunday and we have a whole day on the mainland before our evening ferry to Westray. There’s time for a glimpse of Stromness. Yes, the Old Norse of Ness or nose is in evidence again. It’s time for a glimpse of the Nose of Strom. Stromness has a quaint charm like an unspoilt St Ives in Cornwall. The stone-paved streets, the stone buildings and the steep winding stone stairs together with breathtaking views of the Pentland Firth glimpsed through the narrow alleyways all add to the excitement of visiting. Many of the buildings have cutaway edges like these.
