Manuport
It’s a new word for me. A manuport; Something brought by a human from one place to another. Something which shows conscious intent and the working of an active brain.
Here’s a manuport. It may look like a beach pebble, which it is, but it also has a special history. This pebble was picked up from the beach 5,000 years ago by one of our neolithic ancestors and brought to their small village. It was found by the archaeologists digging at the Links of Noltland site on Westray. It’s next to a stone-lined basin. People heated up this stone in their fire and plunged it into water to boil it.
It’s odd to be physically so close yet so very far away in time from people who fished and farmed and raised their children here. I feel like I’ve been manuported.
