Tails high

Can you stand yet another cracking Northern Nutcracker photograph from me? Yes, I think you can.

When indulging in ritualised fighting on these Bulgarian ski-slopes, Northern Nutcrackers like to make themselves look as big as possible. That means fanning their wings out as wide as possible and raising their tails and fanning the feathers.

They look like me going in my local sports bar to watch the football. I’m not saying it’s rough there but it’s the sort of place you look overdressed if you have both ears.
