Snarl

Golden Jackals use their levator labii superioris muscle to snarl. The name means ‘raiser of the upper lip’. This Jackal’s top lip is raised like a stage curtain to show the actors waiting on the stage – a set of teeth which could leave a deadly bite in an instant. Whatever play is about to start, it’s not a comedy.

The threat gesture of a decent snarl saves a great deal of time and effort. Showing what you’re capable of is a lot less work than having to actually bite everything which threatens you.

Personally, I wouldn’t argue.
