Red-Breasted Mergansers

There’s something comical and slightly zany about Red-Breasted Mergansers. Just look at that feathered crest:

There are a few birds on the River Exe at the moment. They are a little nervous and don’t like boats getting too close.

Here’s one on a flight past, showing they can even throw some cool shapes when they are airborne.

I suppose it’s what we should expect from a fish-eating duck.
