Feeding time for the Long-Tailed Bushtits
Deep in the hedge surrounding this field in Somerset is a Long-Tailed Bushtit nest. It’s the usual assortment of lichens and petals held together with spider silk which makes it an elastic expandable bag. Inside, it’s filled to bursting with white feathers and tiny chicks.
I’m keeping a respectful distance so they can feed without hesitation.

They’ll soon be a marauding family party, sweeping through woodlands and gardens, feasting as they go.

I look forward to seeing them.
