Stromness

I’ve passed through Stromness a couple of times but spent next to no time there. This evening is different. As I wait for the ferry to arrive I’ve got a few hours to explore.

It’s beautiful here. Here’s Free Kirk Lane:

There’s a characterful winding main street full of old houses, glimpses of water behind and verdant tubs and window-boxes of flowers.

I particularly love the cut-off corners (there must be an architectural term for them).

Even the more modern brutalist stylings of some of the later additions and ‘improvements’ can’t stop it being fascinating to wander around Stromness with camera in hand.

I must come and visit when it’s open.
