Fire! Fire!
The scientific name of the Eurasian Bullfinch is Pyrrhula pyrrhula. It means Fire! Fire!
That’s certainly what I think when one appears through the woods in Pennington Flash. It’s so close I can see every detail. It’s also furiously backlit so I quickly over-expose it massively to avoid getting a perfect silhouette. Phew! It worked.
Then the female appears:
They make a lovely couple and it’s a pleasure to spend some time with them. I can look back five years on this blog and see my first photograph of them, which I was so pleased with at the time, together with my childhood nature notebooks:
A year later I’d improved my chances of seeing Bullfinches as well as my photography and came up with these photographs:
It’s good to measure personal growth, development and progress. I wonder when I’ll get better photographs than the ones I’ve just taken, and whether I’ll look back on these latest ones and think that they’re bad?
I hope so.
