Glossy Ibis

I’ve seen Glossy Ibis, Plegadis falcinellus, before, in Italy.

I’ve heard that there’s one in Paignton at the playing fields and so head there for an afternoon off. I soon spot it flying and find it in the wet grass. This is the first time I’ve seen them in the UK. Aren’t they amazing?

Those iridescent bronze colours against the blue sky are spectacular.

It’s an entertaining sight seeing it come in to land..

There are many in the UK at the moment. One ringed bird was from Spain, so it’s possible that many of these others are too. It’s always possible they could be a breeding species here soon with our current climate chaos.

Many birders will celebrate, as the Earth burns.
