The name Sanderling is from the Old English sand-yrðling, or ‘sand-ploughman’.
I’m enjoying watching them eating their ploughman’s lunch.
Still photographs may give you the impression that Sanderling stay still for at least a second. That impression would be false. They are in a state of constant excitement and movement.
There’s never a dull moment.
And after an hour of following them with my camera my mind is so exhausted I can barely see.
I think it’s time for lunch of cheese and an apple.
