Not-so-cool bag

We’re out for the sunset and choose a beach with a view.

The shattered rocks here are fascinating. Just a little further up the bay they’re all rounded boulders, Here, it’s all rough edges.

There’s cloud and sunshine and the most beautiful atmosphere to this place. There’s the cracked pavement of lake bed from Lake Orcadie, from somewhere between 383 and 393 million years ago, beneath our feet.

There are a few gulls roosting on the rocks and a little further up some seals are drying themselves, hauled out on the smooth rocks. The regular patterns of the worn surface are endlessly fascinating in this low light.

Then I spot an abandoned cool bag, its silver lining shining gold in the sunset. Then I see a plastic bottle, And then another one. Then there’s a pile of plastic rope. I begin to fill the bag with rubbish. There are cassette tapes, broken buoys, and plastic objects I can’t recognise. Maybe that’s a firework? The bag is full and there’s more overspilling it as I drag it back to the car.

A beautiful evening and a not-so-cool cool bag.
