Buzzard chick
I’ve cycled out to The Wood again. I’m collecting my trail camera (more of which, later) and want to check on the Buzzard’s nest.
It’s not this one. This one’s empty:
They’ve built another one in a nearby tree, a little higher in the canopy. It takes me an age to find it again. I know which tree it’s in, it’s just there’s foliage in the way. I need to find a spot I can stand in which will give me an uninterrupted view of the new nest. And there it is:
There’s a single Buzzard chick gazing intently at me. It must have heard my every step through the wood and it’s finally able to see me. We stare at one another.
What an electrifying moment. I creep away, thrilled.
