Recycling

There’s a pair of Jackdaws working diligently through the cardboard in the recycling boxes. You’re meant to leave your recycling out before 7am. Here, that means people do it the evening before. They’re choosing the choicest pieces and ripping them up into handy sized chunks, ready to fly to the chimney tops.

I select a spot hidden behind a parked car in the alleyway. I manoeuvre along, so I have the red brick background as a warm canvas for the cool blue-grey tones of the plumage. I try to get the angle right so the wall looks straight even though it isn’t. Then I get a few shots with its beautiful blue eye visible and the shiny black leathery claws in focus.

Lovely.
