Catkins

On my walk I grabbed a few shots in passing of glorious catkins in warm evening light. It’s reassuring to see trees becoming active and producing vast quantities of wind-blown pollen. Life is returning. Spring is coming.

These look like Hazel, Corylus avellana, catkins.

I must go and have a proper look and find the female flowers. They come a few days after the male flowers have finished throwing their pollen to the wind. After all, you don’t want to go to all that biological expense and pollinate yourself, do you?
