Rock Pipits

There’s a noisy young pipit on the rocks. It’s the perfect colour for these lichen covered rocks. It has a lovely delicate line around its eye and the soft yellow beak still showing a coloured gape which entices the parents to feed it compulsively.

It’s easy to approach. It appears not to have the observational skills or the flight reaction of an adult yet.

There’s an adult peeping nearby. It’s a constant noise accompanying the buffeting wind and the rustling waves below. It has the metallic beak and the dark legs of an adult. The adult has developed an extreme sense of wariness and won’t allow me close.

I’m surprised it’s not worn out with all that contact calling. I am.
