Challacombe Chickens

These chickens at Challacombe Farm have the look of an ancient painting about them.

The farm is owned, like 52,760 hectares of land and 2,360 hectares of woodland, by Charles Windsor, known to many as the Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall & Rothesay, High Steward of Scotland, Lord of the Isles, etc. Is there no end to the number of self-appointed titles he and his family can award themselves?

Walking around the farm I spot a sign I haven’t seen before:

There’s a plaque for The Duke of Cornwall’s Habitat Award Scheme from 1996. Who’s the Duke of Cornwall? That would be Charles Windsor. Was the Duke of Cornwall’s Habitat Award Scheme something which his tenants could compete for or is it something he awarded himself?

Charles Windsor does have one award I respect. It’s Oloishiru Ingishi. It was presented to him by Tanzania in 2011. Oloishiru Ingishi is Maasai for ‘The Helper of the Cows’, literally he whom the cows love so much they call for him when they are in times of distress.

I’d like an award from Tanzania for being The Helper of the Chickens.
