Little Footy Arse

It’s wet at Lago di Alviano. The light is poor and it’s cold. We have a cold packed lunch and plenty of cold water. The bird hide is completely flooded so there’s nowhere to put our legs and it’s really uncomfortable. Apart from that, it’s perfect.

There’s a Little Grebe diving and bobbing up as if the water is repelling it. They really are only the front half of a bird, aren’t they?

Last time we came we got sunshine:

Not this time.

The Orcadian name for them is Little Footy Arse. What a perfect name.

This one still appears to be fluffy despite all the water.
