Dawn at the Cave House

It’s dawn at the Cave House on Gran Canaria. We’ve set the alarm for a few minutes before dawn and my son and I are both up and dressed. I have to crouch to get through the front door.

It was worth setting the alarm. From the doorway we can see Roque Bentayga in silhouette with Roque Nublo beyond the clouds.

We need to keep the rough wooden front door closed. As soon as we arrived last night we were surrounded by cats of all descriptions: black cats; ginger cats; tabby cats; Siamese cats. They’re still here.

Walking along the valley we can see other cave houses and other cats.

The cloud is fast moving and reveals novel shapes in the rocks every minute.

As the sun rises it illuminates clouds high over Roque Nublo. Its peak is at 1,813m above sea level.

There’s a lily bulb about to burst into flower here, on the rocky slopes. I wonder what it is?

My son’s ahead of me. It’s a terrific view.

Below are Canary Island Pines. I’m hoping to see more Canary Island Pine forests later, but for now it’s back to the Cave House and breakfast.

Someone else is hungry, too.
