There’s a rat up the tree

I know that rats can climb. I went to a talk by a retired employee of Rentokill when I was a child and watched in awe as he showed his slides of the places rats could go and the damage they could cause. I remember feeling queasy at the trails of black grease up drainpipes from the coats of rat after rat sliding past.

However, I’m still surprised when the Puffin Whisperer points out that there’s a rat up a tree in bright sunlight.

Isn’t it cute?

It’s quite high and moving deliberately across the branches within the ivy. It’s picking at the ivy berries. I think it’s just taking the ripe black ones.

It’s hard to appreciate rats without their reputation getting in the way. They really are stunning animals.
