Autumn leaves in Rome

The early morning light is beautiful in this tiny park in Rome. I’ve read a few tourist reviews of Roman parks. They are very amusing. There are constant complaints from British people about how unkempt they are. There are ‘weeds’ and ‘the grass is all brown’. Given that the economy is doing so badly and that summer temperatures reach 40 degrees C, that’s hardly surprising.

This tree catches my eye. It’s busy withdrawing all the nutrients it can from its leaves, leaving them shrivelled and brown. The patchwork of colours is wonderful against the dark trunk.

I look up and the colours are equally beautiful against the azure Italian sky.

It’s a glorious day.
