Wild and Urban

Bristol is a city with a truly urban environment. There are stone pavements, tarmac roads and tall steel-framed buildings. Through its heart runs the River Avon and Herring Gulls abound in the bustling centre.

Here’s a Juvenile Herring Gull:

It’s got a huge gape.

A frontal view of the head shows the position of the eyes very clearly. Their binocular vision must be very limited to a tiny angle over their nose and the rest of their vision is dedicated to scanning their environment far and wide:
