Sniff my fingers
Grey seals are very distinctive. This one was hauled out at Broughton in Pierowall. They have that famous Roman nose:
I first saw one over forty years ago when on holiday in Tenby. I wrote about it in my nature notebooks:
“Seals with long snouts”, I wrote. I seemed to be impressed that they were all different colours and patterns.
I even sketched one when I was twelve years old and stuck it in my scrapbooks:
It’s definitely got that Roman nose.
This one wasn’t sniffing its fingers though.
