Collecting and sorting

Humans have many behaviours which involve collecting, sorting, measuring, evaluating, ordering and displaying. These behaviours have been very useful to us over evolutionary time. They have become a part of who we all are because they’ve been an important part of why we’ve been so successful in hunting and gathering, in domesticating and sowing and in organising and structuring our societies. They have also led to train spotting and twitching, to record collecting and stamp collecting and to obsessive compulsive disorders.

I’m on the beach when I see a few different Flat Periwinkles. I’m fascinated by their different colours and patterns.

I collect one of each.

What I want to know is: what others might there be?
