Whaup Whaup overhead

A trip to the Bay of Skaill reveals the shallow turquoise waters which look Caribbean to someone as starved of heat as me.

As clouds move over the blue sky we see fields full of gulls, Oystercatchers and Curlews as they hunt for invertebrates while the grass is cut for silage by the farmers. Occasional flocks go past as they search for the next new-mown field and a rich harvest of food for them.

There’s the occasional “Whaup” call in the wind and then they are gone.
