Simple pleasures

Life is a sequence of experiences. The ones I’ve treasured most have been ones that I’ve shared, with people, with family and friends and with wildlife in the countryside or at the beach.

The River Dart is near to me so I’ve been walking a few of its stretches. There are bubbles on the surface as the fast-flowing river foams beneath me. It takes 1/8000th of a second to capture them:

A small Oak tree is perched perilously on the bank:

Tresses of Foxgloves hug the slopes:

And a curious insect with fabulous antennae clings to a fern.

A beetle is trapped by a drop of water on a leaf:

I lose myself watching it for an age. Below me are fungi on decaying branches. This looks like Turkey Tail, as it’s called now. I remember when it was Coriolus versicolor:

Thistles are brimming with life, ready to explode into a riot of colour:

And at the end, there’s a cider refresher lolly waiting for me in the sunshine from Molly Macs’ Ice Cream Van. Perfect.

Why not have a wild experience yourself? The Wildlife Trusts are encouraging everyone to go wild in June with their #30DaysWild. It might do you the natural world of good.
