Flower Arrangement

Apart from putting a few garage forecourt flowers in the wrong size of vase and the extras in a spare milk bottle I’ve never done flower arrangement. I can tell that there’s a great skill in the sensitive arrangement of colours and forms and the spacing to give maximum effect. There also seems to be a ‘language of flowers’ which people use with different flowers being used to convey different messages. As if that’s not enough, the Kirkwall Flower Arrangement Club has created stunning displays in St Magnus Cathedral with each person having to create their display using a children’s book as a theme.

Here is one of the Cathedral’s ‘standard’ displays. It looks pretty special to me.
