Fettered Buoy

Around Gill Pier I spot a buoyancy ring. The word buoy comes from the 13th Century from the Old French boie “fetter or chain”, because buoys were fettered to the spot. In the 16th Century the verb buoyant was used from the Spanish boyar for “to float.” Let’s hope it’s fettered there to float whenever it’s needed.
