Tree Sparrows on the edge

I’ve only ever seen Tree Sparrows before at Tree Sparrow Farm. That’s a sign, isn’t it? If the place is named after the species, then the species must be unusual or rare.

It’s like the time I visited RSPB Otmoor and saw a sign saying the Turtle Dove was ‘up this tree’.

That’s a sign that Turtle Doves are rare and getting rarer.

It’s a shock when I see a Tree Sparrow at RSPB Bempton Cliffs. It shows just how little research I did before coming here. There’s one on a stripy post:

It’s distant and I’m thrilled to see it. Over the next few hours I spot a few more and get a lot closer:

Aren’t they glorious?

I’m still thrilled.
