Last night’s mascara

Black Headed Gulls are so beautiful at this time of year.

Looking closely at their eyes reveals long dark bristles. In summer they will have beautiful chocolate-brown heads. Now, in winter, they have to make do with looking as if they’re wearing headphones.

This one seems excited to have found something, but I regret it might be plastic.

A bellyflop splashdown is the ungainly landing this one made.

We can’t be stylish all the time, can we? Especially when it looks like we’re still wearing last night’s mascara.
