The thrill of Ospreys at Belle Haven Marina #4

It’s the evening and we’ve been watching the Ospreys at Belle Haven Marina in Virginia all day. The male has been hunting and had a successful day. The female takes the opportunity of him being back on the nest to take flight. He’ll be there to look after their two chicks. She heads off across the Potomac and dips her toes in the water. She comes up with green weed grasped in her claws:

Her feathers are beautiful against the contrasting buildings across the River in Maryland:

I really don’t understand what she’s doing collecting water plants though.

She’s surrounded by concrete and steel, plastic and glass and yet exists in an ancient natural bubble of her own making:

She has a massive wingspan and is much larger then the male:

This time she brings back some nesting material.

I’ll be so sorry to leave them.
