A Spruced-up Siskin

Siskins are wonderful birds. They are tiny finches, coloured yellow and green, and the brighter-coloured males have a distinctive black cap.

Their lives are lived in harmony with the introduced Sitka Spruce trees, in artificial conifer plantations, on which they feed. A poor year for Sitka Spruce seed?; a good year to see them in your garden on your peanut bird feeder. A wet day when the Sitka Spruce cones are closed?; a good day to see them in your garden on your peanut bird feeder.

Here they are in Italy:

They are beautiful wherever they are.
