A reason to clear up under your bird feeder

It’s late and the light is dull. There’s nobody around at Stover Country Park apart from me and this female Great Spotted Woodpecker:

What’s that below? Instead of the usual Grey Squirrels which bound and abound here, there’s an enormous Brown Rat Rattus norvegicus below:

Rats are one reason you’re meant to clear up underneath your bird feeders.

They’re stunning creatures, so I’m glad the park rangers haven’t. I think I might just clear up underneath the one in my garden, though. Would you?
