A billion bottles a day

Last year we used well over a billion plastic bottles a day. Fewer than half of these bottles were collected for recycling. Of those collected just 7% were recycled and turned into new bottles.

What happens to the rest?

Plastic is very persistent but it does break down into minute particles eventually. It’s eaten by fish and birds and will eventually get eaten by us.

A billion bottles a day? That’s a serious addiction.
