Dunnock

The Dunnock is a beautiful bird, with the most subtle of plumage. They are classic skulking birds, rarely seen far from cover.

Here, one was perching in the open air so I was able to get a decent photograph.

It looks like it’s been creased and folded or very badly ironed. That’s probably because it’s got a brood patch and has been sitting still incubating eggs.

It must be a joy to stretch your wings and shake your tail feathers after hours of sitting still. It’s a feeling I know well.
