Wasps would chew wood

I haven’t ever needed to bite on a piece of wood, after all, I’ve never given birth. Biting on a piece of wood though, is exactly what this Wasp seems to be doing.

It looks very busy cleaning itself when I realise that it’s not cleaning but eating. Well, not really eating, just filling its mouth with chewed wood. It’s making papier-mâché and the ruin of the hand-rail will give birth to a beautiful intricate wasps’ nest somewhere.

Then I see all the other bite marks and chew marks all along the wood and I’m slightly creeped-out.

I wonder where it’s heading?
