Telling stories: a Chiff Chaff in the reeds

All photographers are storytellers. They use their images to tell us stories about themselves and their relationship with the world. Each photographer has a distinctive style, which is formed from the stories which they tell and retell. Each photograph is composed and developed to show their inner world, not just a depiction of the outer one.

Whenever I take photographs of birds, the stories I want to tell are of: how small and fragile life is; how unlikely it is that we are alive; how generations upon countless generations have led to this tiny point in time; how insignificant we are compared to the forces of nature; how precious life is; and how we need to safeguard our environment. That’s my romantic notion, anyway.

In the meantime, here’s a photograph of a bird in some grass.
